Title of Presentation: Building a 21st Century Environmental Health Service in a small jurisdiction.
In September 2013 I was charged with rebuilding the Environmental Health Department in Jersey. The department had been rocked by tragedy and difficult circumstances and was struggling. Over the last 5 years the service has been rebuilt as a 21st Century, customer-focussed department, confident in its role, appreciated by its stakeholders and heading towards becoming a service run at no cost to the Treasury. This paper describes the redesign of the service, shares some successes and some failures and details where Jersey is in its aim to have an Environmental Health Service the equal of any in the world.
