Title of presentation: ‘Current Practice in Diabetic Foot management.’
Diabetes is increasing globally and is rapidly becoming the world’s most significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Diabetic foot patients are at increased risk of amputations and mortality. Screening for diabetic lower limb complications, neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease, will help identify those at risk for foot ulceration. Majority of patients who go on to have an amputation usually have a preceding foot ulcer. Over half of patients with foot ulcer will develop an infection in the foot and this can progress to osteomyelitis. In this talk, Professor Jude will cover the recent advances in diabetic foot management and appropriate treatment of diabetic foot complications and prevention. Management of foot ulcers and infection within the multidisciplinary setting will also be discussed.
